Since November, 2017, 70 proposals were submitted to the Exploring Synergistic Solutions for Sustainable Development contest. The contest, that was held in partnership with UN Environment, sought combinations of Climate CoLab proposals that could help achieve multiple Sustainable Development Goals. Contest winners will be invited to showcase their work at UN Environment’s conference in Kenya (expenses-paid), meet with the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Environment, and have their proposal included in the Global Environment Outlook, which is UN Environment’s flagship report on the state of the environment and is distributed to decision-makers around the globe.
Contest Judges have now reviewed all of the proposals and selected the Semi-Finalists. We are excited to share with you the latest cohort of Climate CoLab Semi-Finalists, and please join us in congratulating them for their achievements.
Semi-Finalist proposal authors will now have until February 2nd, 2018 to respond to the Judges’ and community feedback, and to revise their work. At the deadline, all proposals will be locked for editing and considered final. We encourage the Climate CoLab community to support the Semi-Finalists by making suggestions on their comment page during the revision period, and using the “support” function to indicate their encouragement.
Semi-Finalists should also be aware that a new question was added to the proposal template. The new question asks Authors to note what enabling environment would be required in order to implement this proposal. I.e. is there a specific set of policies, incentives, investments etc that would make it easier for this proposal to succeed? We ask that all Semi-Finalists incorporate their responses to this question prior to the end of the Proposal Revision phase.
Following the proposal revision period, proposals will undergo another round of evaluations between February 2nd, 2018-February 15th, 2018 to select the contest’s Finalists. From among the Finalists, Judges will select their favorites, called Judges’ Choice winners.
Once Finalists are selected, Finalists’ proposals will be opened to a public vote, to determine the Popular Choice winner. This Public Voting Period will be open from February 15th, 2018 to March 1st, 2018, during which all are invited to vote for their favorites. In the meantime, the public can comment on, or “support” proposals (which is akin to a “like” on Facebook) throughout the judging periods.
The contest has now entered the “Proposal Revisions” phase, which only displays the Semi-Finalists selected to advance to the next round. To view all submitted proposals, click the “Semi-Finalist selection” phase at the top of the contest homepage. If your proposal was not selected as a Semi-Finalist, but you would like to continue working on it, please visit our contest workspaces for a forum to continue developing your proposal and to find new collaborators.
