World flags outside the UNFCCC COP 22 conference venue in Marrakech, Morocco on Nov. 8 |
||
Monday began the United Nations climate talks, also known as COP 22, taking place in Marrakech, Morroco, November 7 – 18, 2016. Climate CoLab’s Laur Hesse Fisher, Project Manager, and Jenn Perron, Community & Partnerships Manager, will be on the ground in Marrakech, meeting with organizational and governmental partners about how crowds and online collaborative tools can help support and enhance global actions on climate change, including implementation of the Paris international climate agreement established last year. The Paris Agreement entered into legal force on November 4, earlier than many expected– after being ratified (adopted) by over 100 countries. Now, attention turns to accelerating implementation of countries’ emissions reductions targets and adaptation measures pledged in support of the Agreement. Moreover, as the latest United Nations’ Environmental Programme 2016 Emissions Gap Report clearly demonstrates, even more ambitious climate targets and actions will be needed in the near-term to avert the most dangerous impacts of global climate change. Join in-person or online: See below for details about Climate CoLab events at COP 22, and you can follow along on Twitter, Facebook, and via UNFCCC live webcasts. |
